The Studio. London Inscription: inscribed in the printing plate: ""EW Charlton", "The Old Harbour",". Date: 1896 Description: View of a small harbour where numerous sailing ships and small fishing boats are moored. Three fishermen can be seen, two of them at work on the boats. Two passers-by are watching the scene from a raised berth. In the centre and background is the silhouette of a town with small houses and narrow streets. From "The Studio: An Illustrated Magazine for Fine and Applied Art", a magazine published in London in the years 1893-1964. The editor was Charles HOLME (1848-1923). The magazine once exerted great influence on the development of the Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts movement and brought together works by contemporary artists. Three fishermen can be seen, two of them at work on the boats. Two passers-by observe the scenery from an elevated jetty. In the middle and background the silhouette of a town with small houses and narrow streets. From "The Studio: An Illustrated Magazine for Fine and Applied Art", a magazine published in London in the years 1893-1964. The editor was Charles HOLME (1848-1923). The magazine once exerted great influence on the development of the Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts movements and brought together works by contemporary artists.
