            CHARLES W. TICE American (1810-1870) Thomas Powell Steamship oil on canvas, signed "C.W. Tice" lower center. 24 x 17 inches Provenance: The artist; Homer Ramsdell, Newburgh, New York; descended in the family to the present owner. Other Notes: The renowned side-wheeler steamship, Thomas Powell, nicknamed the "Swan of the Hudson" was the swiftest passenger boat traveling between Newburgh, New York and New York City for many years. She was built in 1846 for the firm of Powell and Ramsdell. Homer Ramsdell, co-owner of the steamship Thomas Powell, commissioned artist Charles Tice (1810-1870) to depict the Powell in a painting on her maiden voyage on the Hudson River in 1846. Years later, when the firm of Homer and Ramsdell was sold, Homer Ramsdell became sole owner of the Thomas Powell steamship painting. Tags: Painting / Paintings, Historical
