Margaret Chapman, née Duxbury, was born November 18, 1940, and died July 28, 2000. Margaret was a British painter and illustrator. Born in Darwen, Lancashire, studied at Liverpool College of Art together with students Stuart Sutcliffe and John Lennon. He oil and gouache paintings depicted Edwardian street scenes – mainly depicting north England. These charming images have drawn comparisons with works by L.S. Lowry. Her paintings were often reproduced in limited edition prints. Margaret’s prints have been distributed in over fifty countries world wide. Her most famous paintings were published in a book entitled When Steak was a Shilling a Pound , published in 1978. Her great-uncle, Charles Lightholler was Second Officer, as well as a survivor of the Titanic.
