    CHEN CONGZHOU (1918-2000) / CHANG RENXIA (1904-1996) Flowers and Calligraphy Collection 1. CHEN CONGZHOU Orchid Hanging scroll, ink and colour on paper Inscribed and signed, with three seals of the artist Dated wuchen year (1988) Dedicated to Yaotang Further inscribed and signed by Feng Qiyong (1924-2017), with three seals Dedicated to Yaotang NOTE: Chen Congzhou, formerly known as Yuwen, and was later known as Ziweng, was a native of Shaoxing, Zhejiang Province. He was an expert in ancient Chinese architecture and gardens. Chen was also proficient in literature and history. As a disciple of Zhang Daqian, he specialised in landscapes, figures and flowers. Chen played an important tole in the preservation and development of ancient Chinese gardens. He was a close friend of Mr I.M Pei. Feng Qiyong, also known as Chi chi and Kuan Tang, is a native of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province. He is a renowned Chinese scholar, historian, painter and calligrapher, who has outstanding achievements in multiple areas. His achievements were for his studies of the history of Chinese culture, ancient literature, Chinese opera and the history of art. 2. CHEN CONGZHOU Seven-character Poem in Running Script Hanging scroll, ink on paper 82.7 x 30.1 cm. (32 ½ x 11 7/8 in.) Inscribed and signed, with four seals of the artist Dedicated to Yaotang 3. CHANG RENXIA Seven-character Poem in Regular Script Hanging scroll, ink on paper 50.3 x 34.2 cm. (19 ¾ x 13 ½ in.) Inscribed and signed, with one seal of the artist Dedicated to Cong Rong Tang (Yaotang) NOTE: Chang Ren Xia, formerly known as Jiaxuan, and now also known as Jiqing, was a native of Yanshang, Anhui Province. His studies of the history of oriental art, as well as his role as a renowned art archaeologist and poet, was recognised by several publications. (3)
