JEFF CHANDLER (1918 - 1961) American actor, film producer and singer best remembered for playing Cochise in Broken Arrow (1950), for which he was Oscar nominated. He was one of Universal International''s most popular male stars of the 1950s. Good content personal A.L.S. "J. C." with full signature on return envelope, 2pp. 8vo. On his personal letterhead, Beverly Hills, Oct. 18, 1955 to his close friend, Sammy Davis, Jr. Only a year earlier, Chandler had offered one of his eyes to Davis, who was in danger of losing a second eye following a severe car accident. In part: "….As a live entertainer, you're maybe a shade better (shade – what did he mean by that?) – but I'm very bright on paper! Thanks for the good wishes on our anniversary. You were with us in spirit…saw Greco do part of your act… Greco kept tripping over one spot all night – finally discovered it was Whitey Lockman!... Okay, I've seen Greco – and you still have the cutest one in show business!... Sam – Despite your lie, your promises, your infidelities, your going out with other Jews… I still love you!... and hurry back. And if you're driving, don't!".
