      DANA C. CHANDLER, JR. (1941 - ) Untitled (Abstract Composition). Oil on cardstock, circa 1970-75. 622x216 mm; 24x8 1/2 inches. Provenance: private collection, Boston; private collection. This is only the second painting by this influential and multi-faceted Boston painter and muralist to come to auction. Unlike his 1960s political works, this painting exemplifies Dana Chandler's geometric abstraction from the 1970s. Chandler received a B.S. in art education from Massachusetts College of Art in Boston. He has shown in numerous museum and gallery exhibitions since 1968, including the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Newark Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. He was also a professor of painting and African art history at Simmons College and at Northeastern University, both in Boston. His work is in the collections of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Museum of the National Center for Afro-American Arts, Boston. St. James pp. 104-105.
