At the age of 20 David Chambers joined the Royal Navy, going on to All Arms Commando Training to serve in the Far East where he was able to follow an interest in art and painting. After leaving the forces David dealt in Antiques and in 2000 he bought The Old Custom House in Topsham which became an arts centre and it was here that he met a retired seaman, Anthony Amos. Amos had a portfolio of paintings to show him and became a close friend, mentor and influence until his death in 2010.
