Estimation 20 000 - 30 000 €

Clay's 'Washington Guards,'" Publisher: Firth, Pond & Co., New York, 1861. AND Nathaniel Currier (American, 1813-1888). "Cassius M. Clay of Kentucky: The Champion of Liberty" hand colored lithograph, 1846. A pair of works on paper created to honor Cassius Marcellus Clay, a Kentucky politician and anti-slavery crusader. First is a hand-colored lithograph bust-length portrait of Clay by Nathaniel Currier, the American lithographer who headed Currier & Ives with James Ives. Clay is presented sitting in a stately chair with a billowing curtain and a window with a view of the sea occupied by several maritime vessels behind him. Dressed in a fine suit and cravat, he holds the Declaration of Independence in his left hand. Paired with this piece is the title page for a song called "Dixie Unionized" that was dedicated to Cassius M. Clay's Washington Guards by Daniel Decatur Emmett (melody) and A.W. Muzzy (lyrics). Size of portrait: 13.625" L x 9.5" W (34.6 cm x 24.1 cm) Size of portrait frame: 16.75" L x 12.5" W (42.5 cm x 31.8 cm) Cassius Marcellus Clay was a politician who fought for the abolition of slavery. A founding member of the Republican Party in Kentucky, Clay was appointed by President Lincoln as U.S. minister to Russia and negotiated Russian support for the Union Army during the Civil War. Although he was the son of a slaveholder as well as a relative of Kentucky Senator Henry Clay who only favored gradual emancipation, Cassius Marcellus Clay was greatly influenced by abolitionist William Lloyd Garrison and became an important leader in the anti-slavery movement. CURRIER, Nathaniel (1813-1888) & IVES, James Merritt (1824-1895). The City of New York. Lithograph with original hand color. New York: Currier & Ives, 1884. 28 1/2" x 39" sheet, 35 1/2" x 45 7/8" framed. This breathtaking hand-colored bird's-eye view, The City of New York, is one of the most desirable views by the prominent American publishers, and is exceptionally hard to find in this large folio size. In the highly detailed image, Manhattan is pictured from the south over looking the business district. A steamer rounds the tip of the island while other boats scatter the surrounding waterways. New York stretches forth in its entirety, flanked by the Hudson River on the left and the East River on the right. On the right, the Brooklyn Bridge is shown just one year after its opening. Glimpses of New Jersey, Queens, and Brooklyn can been seen in the outskirts. Currier and Ives' City of New York is truly a magnificent work, and depicts the world's commercial center then in a boom of technological and economic progress.

Haus Württemberg oder Wittelsbach (?) - Heigel, Franz Napoleon. R
