FRANCESC CATALÁ ROCA (Valls, Tarragona, 1922 – Barcelona, 1998). "Joan Miro". Photography.

      Est: €2,000 - €2,500

FRANCESC CATALÁ ROCA (Valls, Tarragona, 1922 – Barcelona, 1998). "Joan Miro". Photography. Measurements: 36.5 x 50 cm; 51 x 65 cm (frame). The friendship between Catalá-Roca and Miró was born in 1953, when both artists met thanks to Thomas Bouchard, an American filmmaker who in those years was preparing a documentary about the surrealist master and who asked Catalá Roca for help in his project. The first snapshot that Catalá Roca took of Miró was at the door of the Tarragona cathedral, where he captured the moment in which the painter raised his arm touching the door handle. Francesc Català Roca's photography is based on the neorealist concept of the image, always seeking an unusual point of view and, above all, the human setting of the subject. He is currently considered by many critics to be the most important Catalan photographer of the 20th century. Son of the photographer Pere Català Pic, he began in this art with his father. During his career he collaborated with various publications, such as “Destino” or “La Vanguardia”, and illustrated numerous books with artistic photographs. He held his first individual exhibition in 1953, and his awards include the City of Barcelona (on two occasions), the National Prize for Plastic Arts and the Medal of Artistic Merit.
