En 1934 inició sus estudios profesionales en la Escuela de Pintura y Artes Plásticas de Mérida, Yucatán; en un principio centró su aprendizaje en las técnicas de estampa como la xilografía y la litografía. En 1941 fundó la Escuela Libre de Artes Plásticas en la misma ciudad y en 1943 viajó a la Ciudad de México, donde radicó hasta 1973. En 1963, comisionado por el INBA, viajó a España, Italia, Francia, Inglaterra, Holanda y Bélgica. >La producción de Castro Pacheco puede entenderse como una evolución en la que no hay que pensar en un progreso, sino en un sentido de cambio en el que la síntesis sustituye a lo anterior.
