Artist Giani Castiglioni, who is especially famous for his wood- and linocuts, had a deep connection with his Swiss homeland. The region where he grew up was an everlasting source of inspiration and recurring motif on many works. Offered painting presumably shows the community Urdorf near Zurich. Condition: The oil painting is in a very good condition. The dimensions of the canvas measure 81 x 100 cm. Giani Castiglioni (1917-2005) The painter Giani Castiglioni was born in Zurich and studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Basel from 1937-1942. Furthermore he attended lectures in history, history of art and literature at the universities in Zurich and Basel. Even though his studies and artistic career were interrupted time and again and despite him working in various other professions (e.g. as civil servant), he was able to realize his first exhibition in Zurich in 1953. In the course of his life many exhibitions followed, most recently in 2005, shortly before his death in the Kontrast Galerie Wohlen, Switzerland.
