Jean-Pierre Cassigneul is a French artist who continues the decorative traditions of the early 20th century artists Bonnard and Vuillard. He paints fairly flatly rendered colorful women with stylized classical, dramatic features with large, stylized eyes, who often wear large hats and are dressed elegantly. Cassigneyl studied in Paris at the Ecole des Beaux Arts from which he graduated in 1958. His works have been exhibited widely throughout Europe, Japan and the United States. In addition to painting, he is known for making large-scale lithographs and etchings as well as designs for tapestries. Cassigneul has some thirty tapestries woven after his designs. He has also illustrated publications (eg.) Joseph Kessel, La Tour de Malheur.
