Sculptor, b. 1899 - d. 1988

Samuel Cahswan was born in Cherkassy, Russia, in 1899 and immigrated with his family to New York in 1905, moveing to detroit in 1916. Samuel exhibited a strong interest in art at an early age. Cashwan left Detroit to study at the Architectural League of New York and the Ecloe des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Upon returning to Detroit in 1927 he workd as an art instructor at the University of Michigan, served as the head of sculpture department of the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts, and was hired as a designer by General Motors Corporation.
