ENRIC CASANOVAS ROY (Barcelona, 1882 - 1948). "Female figure. Patinated bronze. Marble base. Signed on the base (right side). Measurements: 125 x 37 x 27 cm (sculpture); 7 x 31 x 31 x 31 cm (marble base). The female figure, of classic and Mediterranean canon, adopts a slight contrapposto, which marks the subtle silhouette of her turned limbs. By the nobility that emanates from her pose and the harmony of her features, she seems to evoke a Greco-Roman goddess. The sculptor Enric Casanovas was one of the main representatives of the Catalan "noucentisme", and his work is characterized by a monumentality inspired by archaic Greek sculpture. He began his training as a disciple of Josep Llimona (1896), and then entered the School of La Lonja in Barcelona (1900). In 1900 he made his first trip to Paris, and on his return he showed his work at Els Quatre Gats (1903). His first participation in an exhibition was at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts in Zaragoza, in 1898. Between 1904 and 1913 he lived between Paris and Barcelona, in contact with Picasso, Maillol and Gargallo, among other artists. On his return to Barcelona, he opened a workshop, through which he worked with outstanding figures such as Rebull, Fenosa, Granyer and Viladomat. In 1910 he participated in the first exhibition of "Les Arts i els Artistes", an association of which he became president. That same year he exhibited at the Faianç Català, and shortly after he traveled to London and Belgium (1912). During these years he joined the team of the School of Decoration directed by Joaquín Torres-García (1914). In 1920 he obtained a special room at the Fine Arts Exhibition, and in 1922 he took part in the Exhibition of Catalan Artists in Amsterdam. Five years later he showed his work in Italy, and in 1929 he won the gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Barcelona. In 1932 he enters the Academy of Fine Arts of San Jorge, and in 1935 he obtains the Campeny prize of the Generalitat de Catalunya. After working from 1936 as director of the Museum of Tossa, between 1939 and 1943 he lived in exile in France, although he finally spent his last years in his native Barcelona. Casanovas produced both works for private individuals and public commissions, an example of which is his "Female Figure" of the Plaza Cataluña in Barcelona. His work is currently preserved in the National Art Museum of Catalonia, the Municipal Museum of Tossa de Mar, the Jaume Morera Art Museum in Lleida, the Luis Perlotti Sculpture Museum in Buenos Aires and the MACBA.

Poses mark on the base of the Fábrica de Porcellanes i Gres d'Art (Barcelona, 1904-1926). Measures: 21 x 20 cm (diameter). Entitled Tirant l'art this delicate porcelain vase is an example of the artistic quality achieved by Antoni Serra and Enric Casanovas, who collaborated together on several occasions. A similar example to the present one can be found in the collection of the Museu Nacional d'Art de Catlunya, due to the relevance of the work as a symbol of the Modernista period. The lineage of the Serra ceramists began with Antoni Serra Fiter (1869-1932), within the framework of Modernisme, who founded the first workshop specialising in ceramics and porcelain art in Spain. Serra Fiter was followed by his sons Antonio (1905-85), Josep (1906-89) and Enric (1908-86) Serra Abella, who began a new phase with a completely new orientation. Finally, Jordi Serra Moragas (1942), son of Josep Serra Abella, continues the family tradition. ENRIC CASANOVAS ROY (Barcelona, 1882 - 1948). "Mother with child and pitcher". Bronze, 1/6th copy. Marble pedestal. Signed and justified. Measurements: 70 x 19 x 19 cm. In "Mother with child and pitcher" Casanovas adapts to his genius the ideal of the Catalan Noucentisme, the search for a Mediterranean essentiality. It depicts a mother walking with her child, a little boy with curly hair who insists on capturing her attention. The bronze work and the soft, rounded shapes and volumes reflect a gentle, touching image. The sculptor Enric Casanovas began his training as a disciple of Josep Llimona and then entered the La Lonja School in Barcelona. ENRIC CASANOVAS ROY (Barcelona, 1882 - 1948). "Flora". Sculpture in carved stone. A smaller version in marble is kept in the MNAC (Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, Barcelona).

        Est: €20,000 - €25,000

ENRIC CASANOVAS ROY (Barcelona, 1882 - 1948). "Flora". Sculpture in carved stone. A smaller version in marble is kept in the MNAC (Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya, Barcelona). Measurements: 180 x 73 x 44 cm. The Roman goddess of spring, Flora, has been transfigured in this sculpture by Enric Casanovas into an image whose beauty seems to have been removed from the course of events. Her eternal pulse, however, coexists with her roots in a place and a time. Casanovas adapted to his genius the ideal of Catalan Noucentisme, the search for a Mediterranean essentiality. The statue adopts a subtle contrapposto which gives a slight movement to the drapery. The drapery falls in vertical folds that accentuate its monumentality. With harmonious proportions and serene features, every superfluous detail has been suppressed in order to extract from the stone the essence of a soul that throbs behind the quiet countenance. But the long skirt and blouse give the woman a contemporary look, far removed from any Platonic ideal. It seems to us that the young woman with the smooth skin could become flesh at any moment. The physical and the emotional, the timeless and the circumstantial, are kept in perfect balance. The cloak slides down her bare arms, closing the back of the figure in a gentle curve. In one hand she holds a rose, the only element that reminds us of the goddess of flowers. This carving belongs to a stage of the sculptor's maturity, a period in which his aesthetics had reached a notable degree of refinement. The sculptor Enric Casanovas began his training as a disciple of Josep Llimona and then entered the La Lonja School in Barcelona. In 1900 he made his first trip to Paris, and on his return he exhibited his work at Els Quatre Gats. Between 1904 and 1913 he lived between Paris and Barcelona, in contact with Picasso, Maillol and Gargallo, among other artists. Est: €5,000 - €6,000

ENRIC CASANOVAS ROY (Barcelona, 1882 - 1948). "Female figure with bouquet of flowers." Bronze. Base in veined marble. Signed at the base. Foundry stamp: R. Vila Valls, Tarragona. Measurements: 85 cm.alt .; 3 x 27 x 20 cm. base. The female figure, of classical and Mediterranean canon, adopts a slight contrapposto, which marks the subtle silhouette of her turned limbs. By the nobility that emanates from her pose and the harmony of her features, she seems to evoke a Greco-Roman goddess, reminding us of Flora.
