Old Masters, Rosalba Carreira 1673 - 1757 Two Portraits

      Est: €20,000 - €25,000

Rosalba Carriera was one of Antonio Balestra's students in Venice. After starting out in miniature painting, she specialized in portraits with pastel pencils and became very famous throughout Europe. She celebrated successes in Paris, Vienna, Parma and Modena. Her virtuoso pastels were groundbreaking for Rococo. The two portraits of Rosalba Carriera are characterized by their delicate, sensual and lively design and their refined coloring. The women wear idealized, antique clothing, jewelry in their hair and pearl earrings. They look at the viewer in a friendly and seductive way. The two portraits could come from a series of representations of ancient goddesses. The blonde woman with the flower wreath probably represents Flora, the brunette woman with the scepter and the indicated small crown on the back of the head Juno. Expert opinion Dr. Dario Succi
