John Fabian Carlson Art for Sale at Auction

Landscape painter

(b Kolsebro, Sweden, 1874; d New York, New York, 1945) American painter. Swedish born Carlson came to the United States with his family at the age of 10, settling in Buffalo, New York. He attended Albright Art School and was awarded a scholarship to the New York Art Students League in 1900 where he studied under Birge Harrison. In 1922 he founded his own art school in Woodstock, NY and soon completed "Carlson's Guide to Landscape Painting" which became a standard text. He was a member of many art organizations and his work is held by the Corcoran, the NY Metropolitan, NAD, and the Carnegie Institute. (Credit: William Bunch, Chadds Ford, October 27, 1999, lot 65)
