The medal is attached to a pinboard and fitted for hanging. Expected light wear. Albert Francis Capone was born December 4, 1918 in Brooklyn, New York to Alphonse Gabriel (Al) Capone and Mae Josephine Coughlin whom Al affectionately referred to as Maggie. As the son of the notorious mobster, Albert Francis (Sonny) Capone could have easily been a Mafia prince, the early 20th century equivalent of Growing Up Gotti. The reality was not as glamorous. Al Capone’s rise and fall meant that his son led a life defined by his father’s legacy. As soon as he was old enough to realize this, he made a concerted effort to change his destiny. While Sonny went to college at Notre Dame and finished his studies at the University of Miami, Al Capone dropped out of school at 14 after hitting a teacher. When he applied to school, Sonny Capone listed his father’s occupation as “retired” — in fact, Al Capone had been sent to prison in 1932 for tax evasion. Though he didn't want to follow in Al's notorious footsteps, father and son did maintain a loving relationship, as evidenced by the letter Al Capone wrote Sonny while imprisoned at Alcatraz. "Well heart of mine, sure hope things come our way for next year, then I’ll be there in your arms, and maybe that sure will be a happy feeling for Maggie and You. Well Sonny keep up your chin, and don’t worry about your dear Dad, and when again you allowed a vacation, I want you and your dear Mother to come here together, as I sure would love to see you and Maggie." For the most part, the apple fell far from the tree however, Sonny did acquire those gun skills from someone... Jan. 06, 2022

Al Capone’s Lenox China Serving Bowl, Perfect For Spaghetti! From The Estate of Al Capone, Provenance; His Granddaughter Barbara Mae Capone

            Est: $2,000 - $3,000

Al Capone’s Lenox China Serving Bowl, Perfect For Spaghetti! From The Estate of Al Capone, Provenance; His Granddaughter Barbara Mae Capone Oval serving bowl from Al Capone's "Wedding Band" pattern Lenox China service. Classic ivory china with very ornate, hand-engraved, scroll pattern gold rim. 10” x 7". Could this bowl have been used at Sonny Capone's wedding? Or was this a plate used to serve the dinner at which the Chicago Outfit planned out The Valentine’s Day Massacre? To think of the people who could have enjoyed a meal at his home, and likely out of this very bowl! Capone’s favorite food was known to be Spaghetti & Walnut Sauce. Could this be the bowl he served it from? As to be expected from an Italian mob figure of Capone’s stature, a lot of his life revolved around entertaining his friends, family and gang of mobsters with food & drinks. While the planning of many criminal events likely occurred around his opulent dinner table, many would be surprised that during the Great Depression, Capone opened a soup kitchen at 935 South State Street in Chicago touting “Free Soup, Coffee & Doughnuts for the Unemployed”, and served more than 2000 people a day. Born in 1899 to poor immigrant parents in Brooklyn, New York, Al Capone went on to become the most infamous gangster in American history. In 1917, he got into a fight at a bar where he was working as a bouncer and was slashed in the face with a knife. This was how he acquired the name "Scarface". In 1920 during the height of Prohibition, Capone's multi-million dollar Chicago bootlegging, prostitution and gambling operation dominated the organized crime scene. Al Capone is best known for his violence and ruthlessness in the elimination of his rivals. Al Capone’s Aperitif Glass From The Estate of Al Capone, Provenance; His Granddaughter Barbara Mae Capone. A piece from Al Capone's crystal stemware collection. Very ornate, with foliate engraving. 5.5” x 1.25". Was this glass used to serve the final aperitif enjoyed by a fellow mobster? To think of the people who could have enjoyed a drink at Capone's home, and likely out of this very glass! According to history, the Southside fizz was the preferred drink of Al Capone, and his favorite whiskey was Templeton Rye. As to be expected from an Italian mob figure of Capone’s stature, a lot of his life revolved around food & drinks and the planning of many criminal events likely occurred around the dinner table in Capone’s home. Though known as a gangster and a criminal, many would not expect that during the Great Depression Capone opened a soup kitchen at 935 South State Street in Chicago that touted “Free Soup, Coffee & Doughnuts for the Unemployed”, and served more than 2000 people a day. This souvenir includes an original bar tab ticket from the Lexington Hotel. This ticket is #32 out of only 97 ever found. Also included is a piece of the famous lavender bathtub, fragments from the pink walls from Room 630 (Room of Doom), and chips from the bathroom of room 530. Sep. 25, 2018

            Al Capone Twice-Signed Document

            Est: $15,000 - $20,000

Extraordinary partly-printed DS, signed twice, “Alphonse Capone,” one page, 8.75 x 3, November 18, 1926. An interest note for "Loan No. 6223," in part: "Due to the order of Ourselves…$45.00 in gold coin of the United States of America of the present standard of weight and fineness, on the 18th day of May A.D. 1927 without grace, at the office of Lawndale National Bank in the City of Chicago…with interest after maturity until paid, at the rate of seven percent, per annum, being for an installment of interest on our principal and note No. 5. being of even date herewith for the sum of $1500.00." Signed at the conclusion by Al Capone, his mother Theresa Capone, and his wife Mae Capone, and also endorsed on the reverse by all three. Encapsulated in a plastic PSA/DNA authentication and grading holder, evaluating the autograph on the front of the document as “MINT 9.” In fine to very fine condition. Accompanied by a full letter of authenticity and grading from PSA/DNA. None of these Al Capone bank documents have come on the market for twenty years, and in the past, single Capone signatures have sold for between $16,000 and $25,000. This item—a twice-signed example boasting a PSA/DNA certified “MINT 9” autograph, and enhanced by the signatures of two members of the Capone family—stands as a very rare document indeed. Capone rose to prominence throughout the 1920s, making a name for himself as a leader of the Chicago underworld. Increasingly implicated in the corruption of political, law enforcement, and labor officials, he was convicted of income tax evasion in 1931 and sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment, serving part of his sentence on Alcatraz. His autograph is scarce in any format, and this remarkable twice-signed document would be the 'kingpin' of any collection of 20th-century Americana.
