Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 10,000 Euro Due to its good condition the Miniature painting can be considered an absolutely rare piece by the Italian artist Giovanni Campigli. The depicted shows Maria Kunigunde of Saxony (1740-1826), Princess of Poland, Lithuania and Saxony, as well as later sovereign prince-abbess of Essen and Thorn Condition: The miniature is in a good condition consistent with age. The borders show a slight color loss. In ultraviolet light minor retouching is found on dress and feathers of hair decoration. The measurements of the ivory plate are 5.5 x 7 cm. The frame is in a very good condition consistent with age and measures 11 x 12.5 cm. Giovanni Campigli (active around 1777/1805) In 1777 Campigli was working in Berlin and Potsdam and later presumably also at the court in Warsaw. As a painter he was specialized in miniatures. His favorite themes were small landscapes, architecture and mythological scenes. He also painted portrait and miniature copies of Italian Old Masters.
