    Lyman Byxbe (American, 1887-1980). "Longs Peak from Estes Park" etching on paper, 1939. Hand-signed and titled beneath image. A beautiful etching by Lyman Byxbe depicting a view of the Colorado mountain Longs Peak from Estes National Park. In 1922, Byxbe began traveling to Estes Park, Colorado, and by 1930 he set up a summer studio there; within the decade he relocated to Estes Park permanently. Byxbe soon attained national acclaim. He was elected to the Chicago Society of Etchers and had a solo exhibition at the Smithsonian in 1937 to 1938. For the most part, Byxbe worked in drypoint, aquatint, and etching; however, he also enjoyed mezzotint, conte crayon, oil, pencil, and watercolor. The print is signed by Byxbe in pencil below the image lower right and titled lower left, Crump number 300. Plate size 4.25 x 3.25, frame measures 13.5 x 13 inches. Crump's catalog raisonne reads: 'Coyt Hackett watched Byxbe print the edition and after number 27 . print 28 showed sufficient degrading of the Drypoint so that Byx terminated the edition and destroyed number 28.'
