      Est: $2,500 - $5,000

JERRY BYWATERS (1906-1989) Pasture in Autumn Pastel (Frank Reaugh method) 10in. x 13in. Signed lower right Titled lower left Having learned the Frank Reaugh method of pastel, Jerry Bywaters produced a major body of work using the medium. From the Big Bend to North Texas, Bywaters used pastel plein-air to capture the fleeting moments of light and atmosphere. The medium is ideally suited to the harsh environmental conditions of the Lone Star State where wind, dust, and heat can render outdoor use of oil paint or watercolor impossible. While a large number of Bywaters's pastels are extant, there are very few in private hands outside of the family. This is a wonderful chance to own a fine and rare work of Jerry Bywaters in this important medium.
