Bylityllis is a posterist whose biographical data has so far eluded us, but whose talent has not. We've already seen his/her fine posters for Derry & Toms department store (see PAI-XVII, 243) and Wagons-Lits (see PAI-XVIII, 204). But here, Bylityllis' sights are set a bit further east-as far east as India, in fact. As commissioned by the Indian State Railway, the artist sets about to convince the British traveler to spend some time in Calcutta-currently known as Kolkata, the capital of the Indian state of West Bengal located in eastern India on the east bank of the Hooghly River. Kolkata is known worldwide for the many bridges that link the city to its sister city of Howrah, including the commerce and commuter-laden one shown here: the Howrah Bridge.
