    Gegeißelter Christus mit Engel Öl auf Leinwand. 69 x 49 cm. Unten links mit Pinsel in Rot signiert "Fritz Burmann", verso mit Fragment eines Klebeetiketts des Vereins der Düsseldorfer Künstler sowie auf dem Keilrahmen mit Bleistift bezeichnet "57". Ausdrucksstarke, expressiv stilisierte christliche Szene, in harmonisch-dunkler Palette pastos ausgearbeitet. Fritz Burmann nahm, im Ersten Weltkrieg als Soldat schwer verwundet, nach seiner Rückkehr seine Studien wieder auf und ging an die Kunstakademie in Düsseldorf, mit einem Intermezzo an der Münchener Akademie bei Heinrich Knirr. Seine prägenden Kriegserlebnisse fanden vielfach Eingang in Burmanns Werke, denen eine dunkle, warme Tonalität gemeinsam ist. Seit 1926 lehrte er an der Königsberger Akademie. In 1921 Burmann participated in the exhibition ‘Religious Art’ in Cologne. The present glass picture shows a girl with lilies and turns out to be an impressive example of this special part of his artistic output. Condition: The work was professionally restored in the early 1980s and now appears in good condition, consistent with age. The window measures 74 x 50.5 cm.
