    John Burke (1946-2006) UNTITLED

    Est: €1,500 - €2,000

John Burke (1946-2006) UNTITLED steel 66 by 27cm., 26 by 10.5in. Cork artist John Burke had his first exhibition in 1967 and continued to exhibit regularly during the 1970s and 1980s whilst teaching in the Crawford College of Art. Hilary Pyle in her 1973 article on the artist's exhibition in the Jury's Hotel, Cork, described his sculptures as having an "ease" and "fluidity". Burke confines his medium to thin strips of steel rods which he, as Pyle see it, translates from, "...the visual material of the mundane life into a realm of fancy and vision." Burke executed many corporate commissions throughout his career including Red Cardinal, 1978 for the Bank of Ireland, Baggot St., Dublin. A member of Aosdána, he concentrated on making smaller 'maquette' pieces in his latter years.
