      § Anne Bullen (British, 1913-1963) A portfolio of original illustrations by Anne Bullen for pony books, to include illustrations for Silver Spring and other stories, written in 1958 by Daphne Machin Goodall all signed "Anne Bullen" and most dated 1957 pencil, various sizes (9) Anne Bullen was born in Hampshire, the elder daughter of Lieut. Colonel Charles Harris-St John, DSO, and his wife Winifred Dugdale. The family moved to Somerset where they grew up with horses and ponies. Anne married Lieut. Colonel Jack Bullen, RHA, in 1933, marrying at Broadwindsor and moving to his family home of Catherston Manor, Charmouth, Dorset . Anne Bullen bred and trained children's ponies for the show ring, and was responsible for the training of HRH The Prince of Wales's first pony, Juniper, a gift to the young Prince from the Dartmoor Pony Society. Anne trained him to be bomb-proof. Anne Bullen exhibited at the Royal Academy, winning The President's Prize, and went on to study at the the Academie Julian in Paris, followed by Chelsea Art School. Anne Bullen illustrated over 40 books including three of her own, in a romantic amd brilliant style.
