      ANDRÉS BUFORN ARAGONÉS (Alicante, 1877 - 1943). "Coastal landscape". Oil on panel. Signed in the lower left corner. Size: 20 x 24 cm; 39 x 44 cm (frame). Andrés Buforn was trained at the Academy of Fine Arts of Lorenzo Casanova Ruiz, where he studied in the 1890s. He made his public debut at the Magna Exposición Provincial de Alicante in 1894, organised by the Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País, held in the city's Teatro Principal, where Sorolla and Pinazo also took part. He later went to Madrid to continue his training at Alejandro Ferrant's academy, although he regularly returned to Alicante during his time in Madrid. Buforn devoted his life to seascapes, whether as seascapes, views of the coast, lighthouses... Throughout his career he took part in numerous competitions and official exhibitions, winning awards in many of them, most notably the medal of honour at the Alicante Exhibition, which he was awarded posthumously in 1943. In 1986 his work was vindicated through an extensive exhibition held in the exhibition hall of the Caja de Ahorros de Alicante. He is currently represented in the Museo de Bellas Artes, the Diputación and the Ayuntamiento de Alicante, among other collections.
