        Arthur Bryks, Jewish DADA artist, orig. autograph on book: “Arthur Bryks” by Emile Szittya, ex. 43/155, 1932, 1st and only ed., French. Authograph / dedication to Gerhard Loevisohn of Arthur Bryks in German on frontispiece. Paris: Editions "Le Triangle", 1932, of 14 pages + 19 plates of illustrations. Gard cloth cover, rebound, soft cover laid on cover, 20 x 14 cm. Good condition. Weight: 245 gr. Arthur Bryks (* 1894 in Falkow near Radom, Kingdom of Poland, † 1970 in Genoa) was a chassid painter, sculptor and book illustrator. Arthur Bryks was born in Falkow in 1890, a village in the Polish area of the Russian Empire, from a wealthy family of Jewish tradition. He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Basel (1915) and then worked as a painter and draftsman in studios, in various places in Europe, in Zurich, Paris, Berlin, Munich and Weimar. The friendship with Ferruccio Busoni opened him Horizonte in the world of art and culture in Zurich. In 1919 he moved to Ascona, a place that had become an important place in Switzerland for emigrants, intellectuals and artists in addition to the cities of Zurich and Bern during the First World War. Here he took painting lessons at Arthur Segal. During this time in Ascona, he made friends with many artists and intellectuals, including Ernst Frick, Alexej von Jawlensky, Marianne von Werefkin, César Domela and Marcel Janco. In 1923 he moved to Porza. He was also connected to the Dada artist Hannah Höch and the writer Richard Huelsenbeck. He was an initiator and member of the Porza artist association. Bryks was represented with some works at the large Berlin art exhibition in 1923. [1] In the 1930s, Bryks, together with his wife Vena, ran a textile workshop in Amsterdam. After the outbreak of the Second World War, Bryks fled to Switzerland with his family. In 1942 he set up a weaving for refugees from the National Socialist countries. In the 1950s he moved to Israel and taught there as an industrial design teacher. In 1964 he returned to Europe, first to Switzerland, then to Italy, where he spent the last years of his life.
