Carta murale composta di 20 riquadri montati su tela, in alto a sinistra il titolo, in basso a destra le scale di riduzioni, confini delineati a colori, custodia coeva in cartonato marmorizzato, al dorso carta rossa con titolo e fregi impressi in oro, lievi difetti.   Rara carta murale che ben raffigura la nuova cartina dell'Europa ridisegnata dal Congresso di Vienna. Molto dettagliata mostra l'estensione dell'impero austriaco dalle pianure della Lombardia fino alla Transilvania, alla Germania ed all' Italia divisa in piccoli regni, e l'impero ottomano che arriva fino al Danubio.

The beautifully engraved map details all of the Gulf of Mexico, the Bahamas Islands, Cuba, the Antilles and Central America. There is good detail of the cities and river systems in the southern US and Mexico. This is the first edition dated 1825. Legend at lower left identifies via hand coloring the land areas of eleven colonial powers, including France, England, Spain, Denmark, Holland, and Sweden. Four distance scales. A very handsome map with Brue's embossed seal below the title and a decorative keyboard-style border.

Fine engraved map of Texas, Upper California and Mexico, with 2 insets and a key lower right, with original hand-colour in outline. Provenance: with Altea (Massimo De Martini), London, 11/95; From the important cartographical library of Warren Heckrotte, his sale PBA, Rare Cartography, Exploration and Voyages, Part II, December 3, 2015, Lot 105 (miscatalogued as being 1835 issue) - $10, 800. “A monumental map, much on the order of the Arrowsmith and Wyld maps of the period” (Wheat) A magnificent map showing Texas as a province, Upper California and Mexico, and of importance for showing Jedediah Smith’s journey to California and back in 1826. “In fact, a most important map of 1834 - historically speaking - was that of A.H. Brué, also published posthumously by his widow. It was a map of Mexico, beautifully engraved, as were all the maps of this cartographer. It... carries many of the legends of the 1833 Brué map. On this map, however, a line has been added from the Lac Teguayo (Lac Salé) area south to the R. Adams, thence southwest past the Rock Salt Cavern to the Seeds-Keeder River, and finally across to San Diego, the line being labeled in the north ‘Route de Smith en 1826’ and farther south merely ‘Route de Smith’... All but one of the names mentioned by Jedediah Smith in his letter dated October 11, 1827... are present on this map...” (Wheat 404) The insets are: Détails des environs De México et de la Vera-Cruz Complement de la Carte donnant Le Yucatan et une partie des provinces unies de L’Amérique Centrale. Brue was an important and prolific French cartographer, who for a time held the position of Geographe de Roi. His most significant achievement was his “Atlas Geographique, Historique, Politique et Administratif de la France” published between 1820 and 1828 and extending to 36 maps in a planned series of 48.

Folio (21 x 14 4/8 inches). 35 double-page engraved maps with contemporary hand-color in outline (except map of France which is colored in full), each mounted on guards, with vellum finger-tab to the fore-edge (small repair to the map of the U.S.); EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED with 4 additional double-page maps inserted at a later date. Original French green roan, gilt (rebacked and with corners renewed to style). The list of maps calls for 36 maps including 2 French maps, west (No. 18) and east (No. 19), but a larger double-page and in part folding map of all France has been substituted for them by the publisher. With 2 significant maps of North America: "Carte de l'Amerique Septentrionale," January 1820 and "Carte Generale des Etats-Unis de l'Amerique Septentrionale," December 1820 (Wheat 336), with what was to be Oregon named "Columbia." There are 2 additional maps by Bru‚ both dated Paris 1825: "Carte General des Etats-Unis, du Canada et d'une Partie des Pays Adjacent" and "Carte General des Etats-Unis Mexicains et des Provinces-Unies de l'Amerique Centrale" (Wheat 361). At the end of the atlas is the title page from Pierre Lapie's Atlas Universel de Geographie Ancienne et Moderne followed by 2 of Lapie's double-page maps: "Carte de l'Amerique Septentrionale" dated Paris 1830 and "Carte des Etats-Unis d'Amerique" dated Paris 1832 (Wheat, apparently unaware of this 1832 edition, describes the later 1837 edition in Wheat 428), both showing the District of Columbia and Texas and with no mention of Oregon or San Luis Potosi. This complete atlas contains 67 maps of both the ancient and modern world. The contents include 1 celestial chart, 14 of the ancient world, and 52 of the modern world. The maps of the modern world break out as follows: World (3), Europe (24), Asia (5), Pacific (4), Africa (7) and Americas (9). Included in this count is a large folding map of France. All of the maps have Brue's decorative keyboard-style border. The map titled "Carte Generale du Mexique et de la Partie Sud-Ouest des Etats-Unis" covers the southwestern United States, from California to the Mississippi River, and Mexico with a large inset map of Central America. The developed railway tracks and those under construction are shown. Other maps depicting the United States include "Carte Generale de L'Amerique" and "Carte de la Region Orientale des Etats-Unis...". Title page, table of contents, and 67 maps. Elephant Folio. (Lacking map 52 'Afrique... partie nord', map 40 'Turquie d'Europe' with light diagonal crease, map 51 'Afrique (carte générale)' loose with fore-edge frayed, two of the double-page maps with vertical creases, light offsetting to the double-page maps, faint soiling and browning to the others.) Contemporary quarter calf over marbled boards, marbled endpapers (worn, spine detached). Second edition of this atlas bound with the plates unfolded, together with Brué's EXTREMELY RARE FIRST EDITION LARGE FOUR-SHEET MAP OF EUROPE. This latter map can only be traced in four institutions: BnF, Harvard, Chicago, and University of British Columbia, and no copies can be traced as selling at auction since 1975 (ABPC/AE).
