      DOMENICO BRUCCIANI (ITALIAN, WORKING IN ENGLAND, 1814-1880) England, 19th century. Signed "D. Brucciani & Co London" numbered 2792. Large, glazed plaster head of Caesar raised on a stepped socle. Domenico Brucciani (1814-1880) was born in Italy and selling plaster casts from his London gallery by 1837. His firm worked with both the British Museum and South Kensington Museum (now the Victoria and Albert). 20" height, 10" width, 13" depth

      Manufactured by Brucciani & Co, 19th century, after the Antique Depicted looking up to dexter, with winged helmet, the reverse with maker's mark in an ellipse 'BRUCCIANI... LONDON', on a turned waisted socle 323/4 in. (83 cm.) high NOTES The sculptor Domenico Brucciani (b. 1815) opened workshops in Covent Garden in the late 1830s and was celebrated for his Galleria in the 1860s. Apart for the supply of plaster casts, he also provided models for Messrs. Elkington and Co.'s electrotypes. In 1922 the Brucciani Company's moulds were taken over by the Board of Education through the Victoria & Albert Museum.
