Sterling Brown is one of the nation’s most prolific poster artists, and the top in demand on the African American art circuit. His creations, like the wildly popular Spiritual Nap and Looking Good Cooking series, result in instant recognition. In addition to being a painter, Sterling Brown is also a sculptor. Sterling was honored as the artist chosen to create and design a 911 Statue to the fallen firefighters of the New York City Fire Department. His creation will be unveiled on September 11th in New York, marking the 10th anniversary of the tragedy.

Sterling was also selected as the artist to capture the life of Naval hero Carl Brashear. Sterling’s painting of Brashear was the centerpiece during the christening of the U.S.S Carl Brashear, where military dignitaries and Robert DeNiro, the star of the Brashear biopic “Men of Honor”, praised Sterling. Sterling Brown was not only commissioned for the painting of Brashear, Sterling also made the life size bust honoring the first African American diver.

Other sculptures of note include the 5 foot 11-inch statue of the black Virgin Mary with baby Jesus for the Archdiocese of Newark.
