Together with a signed 25th Anniversary Limited Edition of Arthur's Nose. 2 pieces. permanent color marker on Strathmore Bristol board NOTE As Marc Brown states, "This is what started it all." This sketch was made after a bedtime story Marc Brown told his son Tolon about a little aardvark who wanted to change his nose.     ARTHUR'S EYES measurements 11 3/4 by 17 1/2 in. alternate measurements 29.8 by 44.4 cm 1978 signed Marc Brown l.r. black and white pen and ink on paper NOTE The art offered here is the "base ink" drawing for pages 18 and 19 of Arthur's Eyes, the story that really began the Arthur series. As Marc Brown remembers, "The idea for this story began in an elementary school I was visiting in Massachusetts. A little boy who refused to wear his new glasses walked into the girls' room, because he couldn't read the sign on the door. I began writing the story that day as I drove home, on the back of my electric bill in the car." This art was done when most colored art for children's picture books needed to be pre-separated for the printer. Three additional drawings were done on top of this black plate for yellow, red, and blue inks. The combinations of these four colors produced all the colors seen in the book.
