            Jun. 30, 2015

            ** Pablo Bronstein (b. 1977) - Stage Design (after Bibiena), 2005

            Est: £8,000 - £12,000

pen, ink and pencil on paper, in artist's frame 19 5/8 x 40 5/8 in., 50 x 103.2 (frame) Provenance: Herald St., London. One of the most innovative artists to have emerged from the UK during the 2000s, Pablo Bronstein came to prominence during the Tate Triennial of 2006 when he built a large stage with seating structure which was to become the platform for performances involving choreographed movement by Baroque-trained dancers. His re-use or re-appraisal of the Baroque continues into his arhcitecturally fantastical pen and ink drawings, for which he is now best known. As Tate curator Catherine Wood explains: "Deliberately conservative, the drawings are reinventions, generating new designs from the historical source material. But Bronstein does not unpick the historical style in order to isolate elements and create a new analytic language. Rather, he makes his finely detailed impressions as though his consciousness as an artist has collapsed into that historical moment, dislodged from the present." IMPORTANT: This lot is sold subject to Artists Resale Rights, details of which can be found in our Terms and Conditions.
