Measurements: 120 x 100 cm; 126 x 106 cm (frame). Birger Brøndum's painting falls within the informalist currents of the second half of the 20th century. The line, the stain, the gestural brushstroke, are fundamental in this pictorial movement that encompasses a good part of the abstract schools developed in Europe and the United States after the Second World War. The painter uses a synthetic brushstroke, but very visible and material. It is a gestural painting, but a measured, measured, precise gesture, totally foreign to the gestural expressionism of Jackson Pollock and other artists. The result is a painting of great lyricism and restraint.
