      ANDREA LORÈDAN Bronze sculpture c. 1800, H: 43 cm - W: 48 cm - D: 26 cm - Weight: 19 kg The bust of Andrea Lorèdan, the son of the Doge and a great art collector, is one of the most famous sculptures of the Italian Renaissance. It is exhibited at the Museo Correr in Venice and appears in many books including : - " Italian Art Masterpieces of sculpture " Plate XXXI, Editions Plon of 1935. - " Venise " by Pierre Gusman, Editions Laurens from 1926 Riccio, Italian sculptor and architect, famous for his sculptures exhibited in the collections of major museums including the Louvre and in Italian churches such as the tomb of Antonio Trombetta. He built the Loredan Palace in Venice in 1536, which became the seat of the Venetian Institute of Sciences, Letters and Arts.       1470-1532) with the limp body of Christ being lifted by Joseph of Arimathea, Saint John the Evangelist and Nicodemus into a sarcophagus bearing the inscription QVEM TOTVS NON / CAP ORB IN HAC / TVMBA CLAVDIT, with an entourage of mourners and the Virgin fainting in the foreground supported by another female figure 4 3/4 in. by 6 7/16 in. No signed version of this plaquette exists but it relates closely to the reliefs on Riccio's Della Torre monument (at Verona) and he is unanimously accepted as being responsible for the composition. The inscription translates as follows :- He whom the whole world could not contain is enclosed within this tomb.
