      Harold Gunther Breul (1889-1965) Watercolor and Ink on paper, signed lower left "Harold Breul 56", piece measures 12 x 16 and 21 x 25 inches w/ frame. Harold Günther Breul was born at home in North Providence, May 6, 1889, the oldest son of the late Hugo August Bernard Breul, the Providence portrait painter, and Lucy Metcalf Andrews Breul. He attended Hope High School, Rhode Island School of Design and graduated from Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in 1912 with a bachelor's of fine arts degree. Shortly after graduating from college, he received a Cresson Scholarship and traveled throughout Europe. One set of etchings involved the circus but his preferred subject matter was horses, and horses pulling some type of coach from a bygone era. Narragansett Brewery was a client, for which he painted their Cyldesdale's pulling Brewery Wagons. He was listed for many years in Who's Who in Art. Breul was a contributing artist to to the Sportsman's Gallery of Art and the Crossroads of Sport, both in New York, and to several galleries in the South. He was a member of the Providence Art Club, the American Watercolor Society, The Providence Watercolor Club, and the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. For a number of years he had been a member of Squadron A. U.S. Polo Association. He was also a fixture at the Irish races.
