        Schwimmerin Bronze. 1936. 123 x 40 x 26 cm. Oben links hinter dem Fuß auf der Plinthe monogrammiert "B". Kindermann 18. Georg Brenningers Hingabe zum plastischen Schaffen machte sich nicht nur während seines Studiums der Bildhauerei bemerkbar, sondern bereits zuvor in seiner Lehre zum Maurer und dem anschließenden Architekturstudium. Die persönlichen Züge des jungen Bildhauers zeigten sich früh in seinen Arbeiten, wobei sie anfangs von einer klassischen Figurenauffassung geprägt waren. Wegen einer Kriegsverletzung konnte Brenninger ab 1943 als freischaffender Künstler tätig sein. Später trat er eine Professur an der Technischen Hochschule München sowie ab 1961 an der Akademie der Bildenden Künste München an. Seine Arbeiten waren durch Ausstellungen in Städten wie Rom, Paris und Antwerpen international bekannt. Noch heute sind seine Werke im öffentlichen Raum zu entdecken, wie etwa der Giebel des Nationaltheaters in München. Unsere Skulptur „Schwimmerin“ erinnert mit der ruhigen, stabilen Haltung stark an Georg Brenningers frühe Figur „Badende mit Tuch“ aus dem Jahr 1933. Die Badende könnte als Inspiration für die Figur der Sportlerin von 1936 gedient haben, dem Jahr der Olympischen Spiele im Deutschen Reich. In Brenningers Schaffen ist die „Schwimmerin“ wohl auf der Schwelle zwischen seinem Früh- und Hauptwerk zu positionieren. ­­­­­­­­

There are scratch marks at the base of the figure. The dimensions are c. 125 x 40.5 x 24 cm. Georg Brenninger (1909-1988) Georg Brenninger was a German sculptor and architect working in Munich. After being trained as a bricklayer, Brenninger studied architecture at the technical university under Theodor Fischer at the beginning of the 1930s, after that he continued his education at the academy of fine arts, studying sculpture under Hermann Hahn. After 1945, the artist himself worked as a professor of sculpture and architecture at the academies in Munich. Brenninger mainly worked with stone and bronze. Firstly, his oeuvre is characterized by a classical concept of the figure, after World War II, the artist developed abstract tendencies. Brenninger created a lot of works for public space. The doves are in good condition; they bear less traces of weathering. The fountain is equipped with pipe and water nozzle. The functionality has not been tested. The dimensions of the stone plate are 9.5 x 65.5 x 65.5 cm and the doves c. 19 x 26 x 12 cm each. The total height measures 96.5 cm.
