      Anthony de Bree (British, 1855-1921) "Sunstar" oil on wood panel signed and inscribed "Sunstar, Owned by Mr. J. B. Joel" lower right. Framed. 15-3/4" x 23-1/2", framed 21" x 28-7/8" Notes: Sunstar was a dark bay thoroughbred and sire, sired by Sundridge out of Doris. Owned by Isaac "Jack" Barnato Joel, a South African horse breeder, and trained by Charles Morton, was foaled and was sire at Childwick Bury Stud, where he died in 1926 and was laid to rest beside Sundridge. He began his short-lived racing career in 1910 at the Royal Ascot in the New Stakes (now the Norfolk Stakes), going on to win the 2000 Guineas Stakes and the Derby. In 1930, his successful progeny (he sired over 30 stakes winners) earned him the title of leading broodmare sire in Great Britain and Ireland.
