Eine Vorstudie der Sinnenlust (Eva) ist bei F. von Carnap erwähnt (ebd., XIV 25). Ferdinand Max Bredt zählt zu den bedeutendsten Orientalisten in Deutschland und war Mitbegründer der Münchner Sezession. Er studierte zwischen 1887-1880 an der Stuttgarter Akademie bei Bernhard Neher d. J. und Carl Häberlin sowie von 1880-1882 an der Münchner Akademie bei Wilhelm Lindenschmidt d. J. Zu seinen beliebtesten Motiven zählten orientalische Szenen, Märchen - und Aktdarstellungen, die er auf seinen zahlreichen Reisen nach Griechenland, in die Türkei und über Italien nach Tunesien zusammentrug. Für seine Gemälde erhielt er Auszeichnungen in Berlin, Paris, London und Chicago.
