The canvas tension is good and the picture is in plane. An old damage to the painting in the upper right quadrant has been repaired and overpainted. The overpaint is matte compared to the surrounding areas. Overpaint is also present around the mast of the ship. The rest of the paint layer is in a good, stable condition. The varnish is glossy, even and clear. There are a few localised patches of brown stains across the surface
