Interieurszene Mischtechnik (Pastell über Algraphie) auf Arches-Velin. 1983. 114 x 77,2 cm (121,9 x 81 cm). Unten rechts mit Bleistift signiert "Troy Brauntuch" und datiert. Troy Brauntuchs Bilder können als Belege von Augenblicken gesehen werden, in denen nur die Stimmung bleibt. Seine Szenerien werden durch die dargestellten Objekte sozusagen nur unterstützt. Worauf es in seinen Werken jedoch ankommt, ist die Erinnerung, die die Bilder hervorrufen. Diese Spuren visualisiert er durch die kräftigen pulverigen Pastelltöne, die sich aus dem Halbdunkel herausformen. Brauntuch studierte bildende Kunst am California Institute of the Arts und unterrichtet heute an der University of Texas in Austin. 2006 wurde er auf der Whitney Biennale in New York ausgestellt. Nackter Knabe gebückt Mischtechnik (Pastell über Algraphie) auf Arches-Velin. 1983. 114,5 x 77,5 cm (121,3 x 81 cm). Unten rechts mit Bleistift signiert "Troy Brauntuch" und datiert. Troy Brauntuch zählt zu den Vertretern der Picture Generation, die sich in den späten 1970er und frühen 1980er Jahren in den USA formierte. Ausgehend von den Massenmedien der Nachkriegsgeneration, die als ideologische Konstrukte gesehen wurden, war die Fragestellung, inwiefern Bilder wahrgenommen und verstanden werden, zentral. Brauntuch wählt seine Motive aus Medien und Alltagskultur und hinterfragt die Authentizität dieser. In seiner Arbeitsweise verwendet er, so wie in der vorliegenden Arbeit, oftmals Techniken der Reproduktion, die er mit Pastelltönen übermalt, so dass die Bilder nur mehr wie Spuren einer Situation wirken. Details sind nicht zu erkennen, was bleibt, ist der Raum, der zwischen Betrachter und Werk entsteht. Brauntuch schafft in seinen Bildern eine melancholische Atmosphäre und zeigt, dass Bilder und deren Bedeutung nur subjektiv wahrgenommen werden können. Die vorliegende Arbeit wirkt wie eine Momentaufnahme.
