      Blick übers Meer, auf Küste mit Häusern und Booten, lasierende, teils pastose Malerei in fein abgestimmter Farbigkeit, Öl auf Leinwand, um 1910, links unten signiert „E. O. Braunthal“, rückseitig diverse alte Bleistiftannotationen und altes Nummernetikett „159“, geringe Altersspuren, original gerahmt, Falzmaß ca. 39,5 x 50 cm. Künstlerinfo: österreichischer, jüdischer Maler (1873 Wien bis nach 1939), zunächst Schüler der Handelsschule und der Graphischen Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt Wien bei Joseph Eugen Hörwarter, studierte 1893–99 an der Akademie Wien bei Franz Rumpler und Eduard Peither von Lichtenfels, unternahm Studienreisen durch Italien, Sardinien und Kreta, beschickte ab 1905 die Ausstellungen im Wiener Künstlerhaus und ab 1909 die Ausstellungen der Wiener Secession, vertreten im Kunstsalon Emil Richter Dresden, 1915–17 Kriegsdienst im 1. Kronen 200.’ on the reverse; typographically dated ‘1904’ and numbered ‘957’ on a old label affixed on the reverse Decorative golden frame Dimensions: 18.5 x 23.3 cm Good condition Provenance: Private collection, Austria Oriental scene executed in loose brushwork with impressionistic use of light depicting the figure of an African man This painting, executed in oil on panel, was created around 1904 by the Austrian painter Eduard Otto von Braunthal. It is titled ‘Fellah’ which is referred to a tribe in West Africa, represented here by the figure of an African in traditional costume. Clearly the enthusiasm for the Orient during the time around 1900 becomes obvious in this painting. The work is executed in loose brushwork and characteristic impressionistic use of light. The painting is inscribed by hand and titled ‘E. O. Braunthal. Wien II. Hotel National. ‚Fellah‘. Kronen 200.’ on verso and provided with an old label, which is typographically dated ‘1904’ and numbered ‘957’. The work is in good condition. At the upper edge small overpainting visible under UV light. One tiny pressure mark and slight abrasion in the upper right. Otherwise overall of very good impression. The image measures 18.5 x 23.3 cm. The frame dimensions are 35 x 41 cm. Eduard Otto von Braunthal (1873-1939) Eduard Otto von Braunthal was born in Vienna in 1873. There he studied at the Graphische Lehr- und Versuchsanstalt under Joseph Eugene Hörwarter. From 1893 to 1899 he attended the Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied with Franz Rumpler and Eduard Peither von Lichtenfels. At the beginning of the 20th century he travelled to Italy, Sardinia and Crete. During the First World War he worked as a war artist. He regularly exhibited his genre scenes and portraits in the Künstlerhaus in Vienna from 1905. (cru) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
