The Court of the Lions (Patio de los Leones; ÙÙØ¨Ø¹Ø§Ø¨Ø³ÙØ§ ) is the main courtyard of the Nasrid-dynasty Palace of the Lions in the heart of the Alhambra, the Moorish citadel formed by a complex of palaces, gardens and forts in Granada, Spain. It was commissioned by the Nasrid sultan Muhammed V. of the Emirate of Granada in Al-Andalus. Its construction started in the second period of his reign, between 1362 and 1391 AD.

Varnished salted paper print. 31,4 x 37,2 cm (37,2 x 43,3 cm). - - Trained originally as a fabric designer, Adolphe Braun embarked on his photography career in 1853, initially focusing on capturing flowers for a catalog titled Fleurs photographiées, with the intention of incorporating them into wallpaper and fabric designs. This venture proved highly successful, earning him a medal at the 1855 Paris Exposition Universelle, and he even presented an album of the photographs to Empress Eugénie of France. [Haut-Rhin]", titled in pencil in unknown hand to head of mount, subtle small stain to upper right corner, some light spotting to mount, a few small closed tears to mount extremities, not affecting print, 357 x 470mm. (14 x 18 1/2 in.), [1870]. ⁂ The town of Belfort, close to Braun's studio at Dornach, was besieged by German troops during the Franco-Prussian War but resisted until the general armistice of January 1871. This carbon print is considerably larger than the similar albumen print which appeared in Braun's Theatre de la Guerre, 1870-71. Perhaps significantly, its wider viewpoint includes at left the cannons and neatly stacked cannonballs which caused such damage to the roofs in the foreground.

Braun Date Published: 1870-1871 Description: 17 mounted albumen photographs on original green cardstock with red rules and handwritten captions. 16x19 cm (6¼x7½"); matted: 40.5x50.8 cm (16x20"). Adolphe Braun was born at Besançon in 1811. He first trained as a textile designer and opened his own studio at Dornach in Alsace. He only turned to photography in 1853, when he produced a series of some 300 still-life studies of flowers, entitled Fleurs Photographiées. Originally intended as designs for wallpaper and as an aid to designers in the fabric industry, these were immediately recognized as an artistic achievement in their own right. One album of the photographs was presented to the Empress Eugénie, and the work met with such success at the 1855 Exposition Universelle that Braun left the field of design for photography. Adolphe Braun loved texture, as evidenced by the way his lens treated stones, bricks, rubble and earth. This is exemplified by his series entitled Théâtre de la Guerre, 1870-1871, which showed the aftermath of the Franco-Prussian War in eastern France, where most of the fighting had taken place. In the mid-1860s, Braun invested in a new carbon print method developed by English chemist Joseph Wilson Swan. He used the new carbon print method to produce photographs of well-known works of art at places such as the Louvre, the Vatican, and the Albertina, as well as various sculptures in France and Italy. This endeavor proved successful, and Braun focused primarily on art reproductions for the remainder of his career, until his death in 1877.

Compendium of most of the caricatures made by Buisson during his time in the Assembly. In the 1870s, Adolphe Braun specialized in the reproduction of works of art. Jules Buisson (1822-1909) was a painter of the Toulouse School. Adolphe Braun was a French photographer, best known for his floral still lifes, Parisian street scenes, and grand Alpine landscapes. One of the most influential French photographers of the 19th century, he used contemporary innovations in photographic reproduction to market his photographs worldwide.
