        SERGEY BRATKOV (Ukraine, 1960). "Magic Carpet", 2006 Print on Dibond. Limited edition of 5 copies. Measurements: 125 x 165 x 17 cm. Sergey Bratkov's photographs are acid commentaries on post-Soviet life, often speaking of a collective trauma where themes such as loneliness and helplessness are recurrent. Sergey Bratkov lives and works in Moscow. Children, prostitutes and workers have been the protagonists of many of his portraits, although sometimes they are only objects, as allegories of abandonment. From 1970 to 1978 he studied at the Repin Art College in Kharkov and from 1978 to 1983 at the Polytechnical Academy in the same city. From 1994 to 1997 he belonged to the Fast Reaction Group together with Boris Mikhailov, Vita Mikhailova and Seregey Solonsky. He has represented Russia at the 50th and 52nd Venice Biennial, at the 25th Sao Paulo Biennial, at Manifesta 5 in San Sebastian and at the first and second Moscow Biennial. He has had solo exhibitions in important museums and public institutions such as Kunstverein Rosenheim in Rosenheim (Germany, 2002), Centre for Contemporary Art in Kiev (Ukraine, 2003), S.M.A.K. Museum in Ghent (Belgium, 2005), Museum of Contemporary Art in Moscow (Russia, 2006), Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art in Gateshead (United Kingdom, 2007), Fotomuseum Winterthur in Winterthur (Switzerland, 2008) or Pinchuk Art Centre in Kiev (Ukraine, 2010) and outstanding group exhibitions in museums, institutions and art centers in different countries. His work is represented in MuKKA Museum of Contemporary Art in Antwerp (Belgium), Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb (Croatia), Museum of Photography in Boston (U.S.A.), Zimmerli Art Museu, in New Brunswick, New Jersey (U.S.A.), Museum of Contemporary Art in Milwaukee (U.S.A.), S.M.A.K.
