Born in Berlin, Marc Brandenburg spent his childhood in Texas. Since 1993, he has been exclusively creating drawings in pencil, without using any color. Brandenburg lives and works in Berlin. Permanent installations of his works can be found at the Panorama Bar of the Berghain and the Grill Royal in Berlin. Further works are in the collections of the Kupferstichkabinett Berlin, the Museum of Modern Art, the Kunsthalle Hamburg, the Museum of Modern Art in Frankfurt and the Museum der Moderne in Salzburg.

Die Repräsentation alltäglicher Motive und Personengruppen, die oftmals mit sozial-politischen Themen in Verbindung gebracht werden, stehen im Zentrum von Marc Brandenburgs Œuvre. Es sind unter anderem Demonstrantinnen, Obdachlose, Protagonistinnen aus der queeren Clubszene, aber auch Müll, Werbung und urbane Kultur, die in seinen Arbeiten zum Bildsujet werden und insbesondere auf soziale Segregation, Nonkonformität und Isolation aufmerksam machen sollen. Dabei wählt Brandenburg das Medium der Bleistiftzeichnung, die wie das Negativ einer Fotografie erscheint und eine gewissermaßen symbolhafte Leere darstellen kann. Ein Jahr nach dem Tod des Designers Yves Saint Laurent entsteht der vorliegende limitierte Siebdruck, der auf einer Zeichnung (50 x 39 cm) basiert, die noch dieses Jahr in Marc Brandenburgs Einzelausstellung "Hirnsturm II“ im Palais Populaire ausgestellt wird und zu einer sehr bedeutenden Arbeit des Künstlers zählt. Marc Brandenburgs Werke sind in internationalen Sammlungen, unter anderem im Museum of Modern Art in New York und dem MMK in Frankfurt vertreten. First, he photographed his subjects in order to distort them by use of copier and computer into negatives after which he eventually draws. The motif of the present porcelain plate, made by Rosenthal for Lumas, is an artist’s self-portrait reflecting in water. After digitization, it was transmitted in an elaborate reproduction process on a Walter Gropius plate from the TAC 1 collection by Rosenthal and published in an edition of 250 copies. Condition The porcelain plate is contained in a gray card box and in very good condition. The multiple’s diameter is 33 cm, the box measures 33.8 x 33.8 x 3 cm.
