Biography

Patrick Bradfield - Was born in Lilongwe, Malawi and lived there until 1970, when the family moved to Nigeria then to Kenya. Educated in England and went to West Sussex College of Design. Studied design, printmaking and painting. Returned to Africa in 1978 and travelled extensively since then.

After Art College I returned to Africa to explore the remoter regions of the continent, including Sudan, drawing and painting tribal people and their environments which have remained unchanged for millennia. I have drawn great inspiration from the experience of living in an environment so contrasting to the "reality" we know as western civilisation. My pictures are based on experience.

I now live in Chichester, West Sussex, UK.
A lot of my paintings have been built up from travelling sketches, to watercolours, acrylics and oils. Much of present day work comes from living in the Turkana District of Northern Kenya and semi deserts of Sudan.
