Original American Airlines Travel to California Poster by Boyle c1960

        Est: $1,200 - $1,600

In this poster created ca. 1960 by Peter Boyle (1903-1967) for American Airlines, we see several elements synonymous with California Tourism. The spotlight and camera reference the Hollywood film industry, the sailboats on the right are reminiscent of San Diego and other popular Golden Coast sailing cities, and, of course, the Golden Gate Bridge of San Francisco stands tall in the distance. The bright yellow sun, palm leaves, and happy couple entices travelers to visit one of the many destinations California has to offer. American Airlines is a major airline based in Fort Worth, Texas. The company was founded in 1926 as a union of more than eighty small airlines and is the world's largest airline. American Airlines is a founding member of Oneworld Alliance, the largest airline alliance in the world. Through this partnership they are able to coordinate fares and services with Airlines around the world. In 2001, they acquired the well-known Trans World Airlines (TWA). They still operate today out of ten major hubs in the United States. Born in Philadelphia, Peter Boyle became a nationally recognized cartoonist for his work with the "Evening Bulletin," a Philadelphia newspaper. He attended the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, working in both oils and watercolors, and was an active member of the Philadelphia Sketch Club. Boyle was perhaps best known for his career in children's television in the Philadelphia area. His character, "Uncle Pete" engaged with a cast of local children while telling stories and sketching cartoons and illustrations on air. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed, and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.
