          Rare hollow carved wooden Canada goose with brass tack eyes. Three piece wooden body and wide tail that has a copper re-enforcing patch on one side of tail done in the making. Fewer than 10 wooden Boyd geese are known. Measures 28.5" long.

          Canada goose by George Boyd (1873-1941) of Seabrook, N.H. Canvas over wooden frame construction. High head, alert or sentry design. Great original paint with a warm patination due to age. Very little gunning wear. Tip of bill shows the dowel Boyd used to reinforce the bill. Boyd was one of the few premier New England carvers to truly master this canvas over frame construction. A few drying marks on the body. From the Plimpton family hunting rig sold by our firm years ago. The Plimpton’s were related to the Talbot family who also had a large number of Crowell carvings which were split among the two families.           Red-Breasted Merganser Drake

          This bold and racy decoy features a long, wide body with a paddle tail. The delicately carved head is slightly turned to the left with a forward-reaching and uplifted posture. The surface features both concise paint patterns and the artist's stippled paint on the breast and along the sides. True to the species, Boyd used red glass eyes for this drake. The pencil-thin upturned bill features a carved nail at the tip. From tip to tail the bird measures nineteen inches. This decoy has been in a private collection since the early 1960s and has never previously been offered for sale.

          182. Canada goose by George Boyd (1873-1941) of Seabrook, NH. Canvas over lath construction with head turned strongly to the left. Over paint has been removed to expose remnants of the original. Some light scratches in paint on neck and head. Nicely crackled finish on painted canvas which only shows a few small breaks where nails have rusted through. Canvas has worn to wood along much of lower edge but is firmly attached. Overall a nice collectible example. 750-1250
