All unframed (4) Sir William Boxall, R.A. (1800-1879) was a portrait painter and was appointed Director of the National Gallery in 1865.

(12 1/4 x 7 7/8 in), minor surface dirt, unframed, [circa 1820]. ⁂ The British Museum hold an album of pen and ink drawings by Boxall, and it is likely the present sheet formed part a similar work (acc. no. 1998,0117.1.1-98).
