    Mar. 12, 2025

James Bourne,  Journeying into Malvern, with the Great Malvern Priory below

    Est: £100 - £150

James Bourne,  British 1773-1854-  Journeying into Malvern, with the Great Malvern Priory below;  pencil and watercolour on paper, signed 'James Bourne Malvern' verso, bears label inscribed 'JAMES BOURNE 1773-1854 / EXHIBITED. RA. 1800-1809' attached to the reverse of the frame, 26.3 x 39.7 cm.  Note:  Bourne was a prolific watercolourist in the early 19th century, before giving up art in 1848 to become a Methodist Minister. The present work depicts a view of the Worcestershire spa town of Malvern, with its distinctive 11th-century Priory visible to the right of the composition. The journeying group very much recall representations of The Holy Family.
