              Matthew Boulton Regency Sterling Silver Epergne or Centerpiece, hallmarked for 1824, comprised of a period cut crystal bowl set into a sterling silver stand with circular top frame having pierced acanthus and scroll decoration, supported by three scrolling acanthus leaf arms issuing from a central figural basket of flowers, raised on a triangular plinth. Each side of the plinth is embellished with applied urn and foliate scroll motifs over a base featuring applied flowering acanthus scrollwork and bordered by raised bellflower and acanthus leaf designs, all resting on hairy paw feet with scrolling foliate returns. Top exterior edge of frame with five hallmarks including lion passant sterling mark, MB for Matthew Boulton Co., anchor mark for Birmingham, England, and date mark for 1824. Additionally marked MB twice to underside of base together with duty mark and lion passant. Stand - 11 3/4" H x 8 1/4" W. With bowl - 14 3/4" H x 12" dia. Stand weighs 52.145 troy ounces.               A PAIR OF MATTHEW BOULTON (British 1728-1809) STERLING SILVER AND SILVER PLATE CONVERTIBLE THREE LIGHT CANDELABRA / CANDLESTICKS, BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND, 1797, each weighted sterling silver candlestick with gadrooned bobèche over urn form nozzle, tapering cylindrical shaft with gadrooned borders raised on spreading stepped foot, the bobèche engraved with a lion rampant supporting an arrow in pale point downwards and the foot engraved with a coat of arms with a lion rampant between three pheons impaling a chevron or between three lion's heads erased and motto "SIC DONEC,;" each candlestick fitted with a silver plate set of arms with matching bobèche and nozzle, over a gadrooned pan, supported by reeded twisted arms with beaded acanthus furrels, marks on sterling pieces (lion rampant, anchor, duty mark), "MB, z;" on silver plated pieces (double sun), height with candelabra: 15 5/8", width: 14 5/8", depth: 5 3/8"; candlestick height: 11 1/4", diameter: 5 3/8". NOTE: The design for this pair of candelabra was produced at Matthew Boulton's Soho Manufactory in Birmingham in both sterling silver and silver plate, with the arms available separately. Zwischen 1768 und 1782 war John Fothergill sein Geschäftspartner; mit ihm zusammen machte er aus der alten väterlichen Fabrik ein Unternehmen, das zeitweise bis zu 700 Arbeiter beschäftigte.
