Gregoire Boonzaier Art for Sale at Auction

Painter, b. 1909 - d. 2005

South African artist Gregoire Boonzaier was the son of noted political cartoonist DC Boonzaier. His Impressionist paintings spanned various subjects, including portraits, florals, trees, rural scenes, and other still-life images. Painter Gregoire Boonzaier exhibited his first two oil paintings at Ashbey's Gallery, Cape Town, in 1923, when he was only 14 years old.

Gregoire Boonzaier's landscape paintings for sale often have sharp edges on the trees or floral aspects, which was uncommon in Impressionist art. During his over 80-year career, artist Gregoire Boonzaier helped found the New Group to combat the conservative artistic movement of the time. The group held multiple exhibitions throughout the country, promoting the work of up-and-coming young artists.
